Stuart talks to Jorge about a book he’s writing about on Hernando de Escalante Fontaneda, who around 1549 was shipwrecked on the coast of Florida, rescued and enslaved by the Calusa Indians. He travelling extensively through Florida, learning several languages until 1566 when he was rescued by, and became an interpretor for Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, Florida’s first Spanish governor and founder of St. Augustine.
