   Immigration Law Questions:
   -
If I obtained permanent resident status through my spouse, who is a U.S. Citizen, will I lose my status if we divorce? If my spouse will not help me petition to remove the 2-year expiration on my conditional permanent resident status, will I lose my status?
If an immigrant obtains permanent resident status in the United States through a genuine marriage to a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, a subsequent divorce should have no effect on the immigrant’s status. A conditional permanent resident required to file a petition to remove the conditional basis of his or her residence status before its 2-year expiration may self-petition if the person entered the marriage in good faith and the couple subsequently divorced. A conditional resident who remains married must file the petition with his or her U.S. citizen spouse before the 2-year expiration date.
    - Is it possible to legitimately buy a green card?
An “Investor Green Card” allows immigrants with substantial funds available to obtain permanent resident status by investing at least $1,000,000.00 in a business, or at least $500,000.00 in a targeted rural area or an area where unemployment is high.  The investment must create at least 10 jobs for U.S. workers, and the investor is required to be involved in making policy decisions at the business.
